#pals.T.R.O.N.G.Meet Coach Jerry Bruce. He is the head Baseball Coach for LR Parkview High School. We Will be interviewing him on NLRPD's Behind the Badge - January 11, 2021 from 5-6pm on KABF 88.3 FM or streamed live via the KABF website or "Simple Radio" app. Tune in and show some love for our community leaders and mentors.![]()
I was born and raised in Pine Bluff Arkansas to the parents Lee and Varnette Bruce both educators. I attended school and graduated from Watson Chapel High School class of 2001. While in high school I maintained a 3.5 GPA, and starred in both basketball and baseball making ALL State, and my teams won state 1 time in both basketball and baseball. Sports has always help shape me into who I am, and given me an opportunity to express myself in a positive manner while learning life skills to be a better citizen in society. ![]()
I went on to attend UAPB majoring in Kinesiology in my undergraduate studies, and also acquired my masters in Physical Education. I played baseball for four years at UAPB playing middle infield where I was awarded ALL-SWAC team honors for my performance while playing at UAPB my junior season.
Upon graduating from college I quickly started my teaching and coaching career in Pine Bluff. I coached basketball, baseball, and track.![]()
This career led me to where I am today as a teacher and head baseball coach in Little Rock School District at Parkview High School.![]()
I am married to Tiffany Bruce and have two children Aubrey Bruce, and Jarett Bruce.![]()
B4 and Baseball coaching at Parkview:![]()
I am the head baseball coach at Parkview High School. I coach mostly inner city youth who don’t receive the same opportunities as some of there peers. Upon getting the job I hit the ground seeing the need to help grow the game for kids who look like myself. Often times they aren’t in a position or afforded the opportunity to participate in competitive baseball due to high cost, and specialized training cost.![]()
I started the Building Boys Beyond Baseball Program Feb 2020 with the realization that for us to help change the narrative we have to do so with starting with the kids at the elementary age to build interest, expose kids to a higher level of baseball and instruction, and to be able to mentor young men in our community.![]()
I started this program because I know that the only way we can change the narrative for all kids in the community is to address the needs of kids who are left out in terms of being able to have the knowledge, resources, or support to play the game of baseball. We want to change the mindset of our community to a mindset that baseball is a fun and engaging sport that can teach life skills to our youth and give them something else positive to do which will help our kids become better citizens in society. - Coach Jerry Bruce
